Must a person call upon the name of the Lord to be saved? Many evangelists use this verse when out soulwinning. Watch this video as Dr. Max D. Younce of Heritage Bible Baptist church explains what all this means & how it relates to salvation.
Dear Soul, the Bible declares that one day you will die & then stand face to face with God to be judged. "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" Hebrews 9:27.
Nothing in your entire life could be more important than to be ready for that day, for it will determine whether you will spend eternity in Heaven or Hell.
This judgment will be based on "righteousness"; which means to be absolutely perfect and without sin. The Bible says, "he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained;" Acts 17:31a.
The man spoken of in this verse is Jesus Christ. This means that your righteousness must match that of Jesus Christ.
Can you make it through your entire life without committing 1 single sin? Jesus Christ did, and He is the one that you will be compared with at your judgment.
Nobody but Jesus Christ, could ever lead a life without one single sin. The Bible says, "For all have sinned," Romans 3:23a. Nobody but Jesus Christ is that righteous. The Bible says, "There is none righteous, no, not one:" Romans 3:10b. If you claim to be righteous, you are only deceiving yourself, and making God a liar.
The Bible says, "If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar," I John 1:10a. "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." I John 1:8.
The Bible says, "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?" I Corinthians 6:9a. If you're not going to Heaven, that leaves one other place. "The wicked shall be turned into hell..." Psalm 9:17a.
The Bible says, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us," Titus 3:5a. If you could "earn" the righteousness of God, then Jesus Christ would not have had to die on the cross. The Bible says, "I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain." Galatians 2:21
You cannot earn the "righteousness of God" be leading a good life, church membership, sacraments, baptism, or anything that YOU do. If you do something for it, then it is SELF-righteousness.
Faith, is a "complete" trust or dependency upon someone. The Bible says that Jesus Christ died to pay for your sins and purchase the "righteousness of God" for you. You must stop trying to "earn" it, and "put complete faith in Jesus Christ" to receive it. The Bible says, "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." Romans 4:5. "Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe:" Romans 3:22a.
Once you trust in Christ, that he died for your sins, was buried and rose again three days later, you will not have to fear judgment day, because in your heart you know that you will "be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:" Philippians 3:9.
Jesus Christ has already paid for eternal life, you need only to receive it as a "gift", by putting your faith in Him. The Bible says, "...the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23b. God cannot lie, and He has promised to give you eternal life. The Bible says, "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;" Titus 1:2.
Jesus Christ said himself in John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” Notice all three verb tenses, past, present and future, associated with everlasting life. If its everlasting and then you could lose it, it wouldn’t be eternal.
Ephesians 1:13-14 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians 4:30 “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”
Once we trust in Christ, we are sealed…not until we sin again, but unto the day of redemption.
John 3:18 “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
Will you trust in Christ alone? It’s the smartest thing you can ever do. His yoke is easy and His burden is light!
