A speech delivered by a Sikh journalist turned activist in Panjab in the early 1980s. This was a time when Sikh activism was on the rise. The speech was delivered during the Dharam Yudh Morcha, when the Sikh populace were being oppressed for agitating for their social, economic and political rights in Panjab. At this point in history the Sikh were still content to lobby the Indian government for equal rights within India, something which had not been achieved in similar movements in 1947. Sikh leaders such as Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale knew full-well that complete independence was the only way Sikh would experience freedom, but the Sikh were not yet ready for this truth. In this speech activist Bharpur Singh responds passionately to the previous speaker who rather naively claimed Sikhs do not want freedom.
