Follow these rules for constructing a root locus.
It is not necessary to understand all of these in order to do the sketches, but it can be helpful to understand whence come the various rules.
Rule 1 − The root locus is symmetrical about the real axis.
Rule 2 − Find the number of root locus branches.
Rule 3 − Identify and draw the real axis root locus branches.
Rule 4 − Find the centroid and the angle of asymptotes.
Rule 5 − Find the angle of departure and the angle of arrival.
Rule 6 − Find Break-away and Break-in points.
Rule 7 − Find the intersection points of root locus branches with an imaginary axis.
