Philippines Tourism ~ Magellan was killed by the chieftain of Lapu Lapu after bring Christianity to the Philippines. This cross is encased in wood to keep tourists from chipping away at the original cross which is believed to contain good spirits for those who have a piece of it. Other rumors say that the original cross has been gone for a long time and this is just a symbol of the past of Magellan.
