Well another mail in laptop repair showed up and it is an Alienware m17 R3 laptop. The customer's note says it no longer turns on. I opened it up and took some measurements and I was getting voltage on the motherboard from the DC power circuit and the battery circuit. Which was a good thing.
I removed the board and checked if I could fix it. After spending some time working on the board, I found that there was a power MOSFET not turning on. The problem is with the PCH chip, which tell the MOSFET to turn on. Unfortunately I was not be able to fix the board.
Do you think this customer should buy a new motherboard for $750 or buy a new laptop?
