There's a crazy glitch in Super Metroid called the Spacetime Beam that allows you to reset all bosses, item pickups, and doors, but NOT your current inventory and map data. It essentially allows you to start the game all over with all of your upgrades, which is basically a New Game+ mode!
The glitch is relatively easy to perform, and has multiple uses. In this example I went into a long room beyond a Power Bomb door. It's just to the right of the room that resembles the final room in the original Metroid. You know the place.
When performing the Spacetime Beam to achieve New Game Plus mode, you'll want to first OPEN the door on your left. Then, press START to open your menu, and go to the equipment screen.
What you'll want to do is equip every beam except for the Wave Beam. This is normally not possible, since the game doesn't let you equip the Plasma Beam and Spazer at the same time. So equip every beam except for Wave and Plasma, then move your cursor so it highlights your High Jump Boots. Now press LEFT and A at the same time.
If you did the previous step correctly, you should see the Plasma Beam is now equipped, and the letters VAR appear next to it. Close the menu, FACE LEFT and shoot. The top of your screen will show some glitchy graphics.
Now run through the open door on the left (you will be in slow motion). You'll notice that the Power Bomb door has been sealed once again. The Spacetime Beam has just reset all bosses, items, and doors! Now you can play the game as if you've just freshly restarted. Make sure to UNEQUIP your Spacetime Beam in the menu before you fire again - it can cause some strange glitches or crashes if you're not careful!
If you'd like, you can even SAVE your game and reset. When you load up your save file, you will see the introduction sequence all over again, and you will be transported to Ceres Station for the game's opening, but you will still have all your equipment!
FIN FACT: The doors in Ceres Station can be destroyed with Power Bombs, and some of them will even leave behind a glitched enemy door sprite.
Sometimes the Space Time Beam is called the Reset Beam.
