Watch as James Thomas, DDS, MS, performs a LightScalpel CO2 laser tongue-tie release (frenectomy) on a 5-year-old boy. Following the procedure, daily photos were taken to show healing progression. Watch how the tongue heals following the release.
Along with the frenectomy procedure, that patient was in myofunctional therapy which included a pre-frenectomy session in preparation for the frenectomy procedure as well as post-frenectomy sessions. The myofunctional therapy included stretches to help avoid post-frenectomy tie “reattachment”, and to strengthen and retrain the tongue. It is important to have myofunctional therapy to achieve optimal tongue function post frenum release.
