2nd and Bryant Intersection Improvements
Construction on the intersection of 2nd Street and Bryant should be substantially finished and open for all directions of traffic in early September. The bulk of the remaining work is in the southwest portion of the intersection. In that area, the contractor is continuing placement of drainage structures and the asphalt sub surface has been installed. The final concrete surfaces have been installed in all other directions and permanent poles have been set. Sidewalk work continues with the sub surface material and forms recently installed on the northwest corner of intersection.
KickingBird Golf Improvements
Work continues on the interiors of both the clubhouse and special events center. This work includes installation of the fire suppression systems, metal stud framing, plumbing rough in, and duct work. At the clubhouse, the fireplace on the north patio is under construction and the water meters are being set. The windows have been installed in the special events center.
At the driving range, the light poles have been set and the LED light fixtures installed. The driving range tees were laser leveled and topsoil and sand mix has been applied to all three tiers. Additionally, the large drainage valley across the driving range is now filled in.
At the short game practice facility, greens mix has been put in all of the greens and elevations have been flagged.
All tee boxes on the course have been sodded except for Hole #6 and Hole #11. Finally, all fairways have been sprigged except for Hole #11, which will be sodded once all materials are removed.
The Clubhouse, Special Events Center and all other buildings are still on pace to open March 2023 and all turf area openings will be determined by conditions coming out of winter.
Stephenson Park Upgrades and 4th Street Streetscape
City staff held a preconstruction meeting with the general contractor (Rudy Construction) on August 19th. Rudy will begin mobilizing at the end of this week and once construction begins they will have 240 days to complete the project.
One of the goals of the project is to create more passive, open space which will be achieved by constructing an event lawn and central lawn. Other elements of the park upgrades include a new, larger pavilion, a larger space for the playground with new equipment, resurfaced basketball court, increased sidewalks to improve accessibility, and a water feature to complement the central lawn. One of the unique features of the project will be repurposing the beloved rocket ship into an iconic art piece. For many this park is affectionately known as “Rocket Ship Park” and while the slide will be removed the top will be refurbished and placed in a prominent spot in the the NE corner of the park.
Additionally, two features will help encourage increased usage of the park and regional economic development. 4th Street between Littler and Boulevard will see streetscape added which will include 50 additional parking stalls as well as trees and landscaping. Improvements to stormwater infrastructure will include adding an underground detention box that will accommodate regional detention thereby increasing the likelihood of redevelopment and revitalization of the area.
