Quick video of the drive in, and a mini tour of my cabin.
- Yes, you do have to drive through an industrial park to get to the campground. It's not ideal, but I felt safe enough. I saw plenty of people jogging through there through the week and weekend.
- The grounds are bordered by a high traffic bike trail, and the bayou.
- The bike path is a bit elevated, so people can see your cabin over the fence. As I was sitting there making my smores, I was waved at by plenty of bikers and joggers passing by. If you are staying in a cabin by the trail, I would recommend keeping valuables from sight and having your curtain closed.
- The security of the place is great. Every hour or more someone would drive by on a golf cart.
- When I checked in they gave me the wrong key to the cabin and my porch light was burned out. They also had me checking out a day earlier than scheduled. ALL ISSUES WERE FIXED ON THE SPOT - Hands down great service. Better than most hotels I stay at for sure.
- At night someone stands up front by the entrance and checks every vehicle that comes in for their tag. I felt really good seeing this.
- The cabin was cozy. There were three electrical outlets, two windows, a queen bed + bunk bed, an overhead light, an air conditioner, a shelf under the window, a bench under the window that I used as a night stand, a trash can with trash bags, a broom, an information sheet with emergency after-hours numbers, wifi information, porch swing, outdoor bench, picnic table, fire ring.
- They sell ice in vending machines, there is a machine I saw up by the entrance and another one by the bathroom closest to the dock. A bag of ice is $2, it doesn't take cards, only single dollar bills or quarters.
- You can purchase firewood at the office. The bundles were very good - some KOA's have really small bundles but this one had the good heavy logs in it that burned a long time. They cart the wood down to you too.
- My only complaint was that my door squeaked really loud. They probably would have fixed that if I told them, but I never got around to letting them know.
- There are several water access points. I only used the boat ramp, but there was also a pier, a dock, and a sloping area that tapered in to the water that looked like it would be safe for a board or a kayak.
- They rent kayaks and bikes here. There is a pool, a mini-golf, shuffleboard, and some type of hall that I didn't go into. The gift shop is very well stocked with knick-knacks that you can pick up for kids or family.
- On Friday and Saturday a bunch a younger crowd came in, they were partying pretty loud and drinking. They were down by the dock in a cabin next to the tents. Around 9pm it was so loud, I was relieved that I was in a cabin and not in a tent by them - but by 9:30 it was very quiet. I think the staff told them to quiet down, which was a relief.
- There is a charging area by the tents next to the boat ramp. It is shaped like a cabin but without doors. There are tons of outlets in it. There are also a couple of dog walk areas, a cleaning station with kitchen sinks.
- I took my board out on the water and saw dolphins right by my board. It was thrilling. Lots of mangroves to investigate, birds to take pictures of. Jumping fish everywhere. Lot's of people out fishing on the weekend but very quiet during the week.
I was very impressed and would recommend this campground. Lot's and lot's of helpful staff everywhere who are working hard.
