"Even though we knew that part of my birth plan was to have an epidural and be medicated, I wanted to make sure that we had someone that knew us in the room the whole time,” says new mom Katie Stern.
Her husband Nolan adds that having a doula made the birth a much better experience for him: “[Our doula] got to know me. While everybody else was focused on my wife and her needs and the baby, [our] doula noticed that I was shrinking into my shell, in the corner, and getting out of the way. She was very good at reengaging me. I felt like I was part of the process because of a doula."
