STORYLINE:
The "no" vote gained new ground in a poll released on Tuesday on voting trends in France's critical weekend referendum on the European Union's constitution.
The Ifop poll showed the "no" camp taking 54 percent of the vote compared to 46 percent for the "yes" camp - with 78 percent of those questioned saying they were sure of their choice.
Opposing camps over Europe's planned constitution staged large rallies as the campaign entered its final week before a nationwide vote.
Representing the right-wing, the president of the French political party MPF - Movement for France - organised a rally at the Paris Sports Palace to galvanise support for the NO voters.
