What is cloud computing? Cloud computing uses remote servers on the internet to store, retrieve, and make sense of data. There is a general trend towards cloud computing, but why is that? What are the pros and cons of cloud computing?
What are some advantages of cloud computing?
Advantages of cloud computing:
1. Cloud computing reduces in-house redundancy. There is less need for having your own local servers. The implication is that you will have more physical space.
2. It may be less expensive. I say it may because you have to do your own financial calculations because there is often server fees that might get expensive.
3. You require less personnel. You probably don’t need as many server specialist, as many cloud services do these things for you.
4. Cloud computing requires less updating. Because you don’t have the physical hardware, you will not have to do as many updates.
5. Cloud services are likely more reliable as they have greater resources dedicated to redundancy.
What are some disadvantages of cloud computing?
1. Cloud services give you less control. Control over the data and processing will be a big thing if you have to worry about security.
2. Cloud computing adds another layer of difficulty. Every time you add another layer to your services, you add another layer of complexity and difficulty of getting work done.
3. Cloud computing services may have poor service. It might be that tech-support is going to be very difficult to get work done, and you might be confused from the poor instructions.
4. It might be quite expensive. Sometimes it might be more expensive to farm out your computing resources. You have to do cost / benefit analysis.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
