The Government very much sees the potential for Ireland to be one of the leading European Digital countries and for the Government itself to lead the way in terms of how it uses technology to improve its services. Mr. Lowry discussed how Ireland’s current position as a digital nation might be improved and outlined the Government’s plans to use digital to provide better services to people and businesses.
About the Speaker:
Barry Lowry has been the Chief Information Officer for the Irish Government since April 2016 with the primary task of taking forward the Public Sector Information Communications Technology (ICT) Strategy, which sets out ambitions for developing the use of shared services, digital services and data to better serve the people of Ireland.
Barry was previously the Director for IT Shared Services and Strategy and Head of the IT Profession within the Northern Ireland Civil Service. Barry is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and in 2011 was chosen as the BCS Northern Ireland IT Professional of the Year.
