Cruising along almost deserted, 77 kilometers long Route 1088, appears almost too good to be true. This beautiful motorcycle touring road with number of exciting sweeping curves and few steep switchbacks, bypasses Doi Inthanon National Park, the home of Thailand's highest mountain and continues down south towards sleepy town of Mae Chaem. Road extends further south through forests and vast plantations, all the way to intersection with R108 and Ob Luang. However, it has to be pointed out, during the dry season, farmers indiscriminately burn dry maize fields, turning large agricultural area into wasteland. These illegal agricultural fires occur every year and despite a number of measures, such as fire ban from February until April, these activities are ongoing and continue to be massive environmental problem.
