From batteries to charging piles to the vehicles themselves, China’s EV industry is zooming towards the future with high-voltage, fast-charging technology.
In August, Chinese battery giant CATL released a new battery that can charge to a range of 400 kilometers in just 10 minutes.
And for the vehicles, more Chinese auto makers are adopting an 800-volt electric architecture.
Higher voltage architectures allow motors, inverters, and other core components to run more efficiently, which also results in faster charging.
To accommodate vehicles with higher voltage electric systems and more powerful batteries, China’s EV charging pile manufacturers have stepped up to the challenge.
Some firms have already established an extensive network of high-voltage fast-chargers.
According to those in the industry, high-voltage fast-chargers can fill up a battery in as little as 15 minutes, just one-fourth of what it takes for traditional fast chargers.
