The 1990 Galway International Rally welcomed a new title sponsor to the Tarmac Championship as well as launching a new series for historic rally cars. The highlight though was Austin McHale joining the BMW party with an identical M3 to Bertie Fisher. Also returning to the series was the Metro 6R4 of John Price with slightly reduced capacity to meet new regulations. There was also an interesting team entry to chase class awards by the Czechoslovakian group, Motokov, with their Skoda's.
