After being dormant for around 17 year, the Kedawung sugar mill's steam locomotive number 14 is now back in service. Its previous working was around year 2001 or 2002.
Thanks to the success of its theme park, Kedawung sugar mill in East Java finally able to afford to bring back one of its steam locomotive to working condition, in 16th March 2018.
We (me and my friend, Robin Gell) hired the locomotive on 3rd May 2018 to do some excursion run between Kedawung and Kawisrejo, and were probably the first paying customer to hire the steam locomotive.
In this video the loco can be seen hauling 2 open air tourist coaches, made from modified sugarcane wagon. The train is also escorted by a single diesel loco, just in case if it developed trouble it will push the train back into the mill.
With the success of this steam tour, it means that now there is a steam locomotive attraction that is within easy reach from Surabaya city.
