The 'national anthem' of the Isle of Mull. Words written in the 1840s by Dugald MacPhail, obliged to leave his beloved native island to get work in Newcastle, England to be able to support his family (translation below). Sung at the National Mòd Choir Concert in Inverness, October 2021.
Chorus
The isle of Mull, the beautiful island, the sunny island with the sea swirling round.
Triumphant island of high mountains, of green woods and fertile pastures.
----------------------
Although I am an exile, a faraway stranger, in Newcastle in the north of England.
My native island comes to mind, the Isle of Mull of lovely mountains.
(Chorus)
Every joy disappeared like a dream, like bubbles bursting on top of the waves. But a fond farewell to every beauty and grace, which was in the island of the high mountains.
(Chorus)
