Tuscany, a day visiting the area where movies including "Gladiator" and "The English Patient" were filmed, and three towns that are famous for their wine, cheese and truffles.
The towns of Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano are little jewels in the countryside, each has an interesting history, and as everywhere in Italy the churches are home to art.
Visits included a wine cellar in Montalcino, and tasting of the acclaimed Brunello. a winery in Montepulciano with tasting of “Vino Nobile”, and a cheese and truffle oil tasting in Pienza. I also enjoyed watching a mosaic artist at work.
Unfortunately about two weeks too early for Autumn colors, but a perfect day to be walking around these towns and learning more about food and culture.
