The PADI Free Flowing Regulator skill is an important diving skill to learn because if in the unlikely event your scuba regulator breaks or freezes, it will free flow because of the downstream valve and the "fail-safe" mechanism. With the PADI Free flowing regulator skill you can still easily breath from the second stage regulator and make a safe accent to the surface.
