Senior Labor minister Katy Gallagher has confirmed she did have prior knowledge of some details of a rape allegation made by former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins, but denied she misled Parliament over the issue. Subscribe: [ Ссылка ]
The Albanese government has been hit with suggestions it coordinated with Ms Higgins and her partner, David Sharaz to weaponise the rape allegation and use it against Scott Morrison and the then-Coalition government in 2021.
This week, The Australian newspaper published private text messages between Ms Higgins and Mr Sharaz, appearing to show the pair alerting Labor MPs about key details of the allegation before going public with the story.
Senator Gallagher and fellow Labor Senator Penny Wong had previously been accused by Ms Higgins' former boss, Liberal Senator Linda Reynolds, of using prior knowledge of the allegation to attack the Coalition.
