🟠 Who is Gregg Stevenson?

Undergoing a double amputation after being afflicted with an Improvised Explosive Device blast at 22, Gregg had to work hard so as to regain his fitness. He had to learn to walk on prosthetic legs thereafter, a challenging time for Gregg. However, he persevered and is today an example of the role a positive mindset plays in growth and success. Since 2013, he has been an ambassador for On Course Foundation. In 2018, he turned his focus towards rowing, trying out at the Invictus Games. 2023 was a prominent year for Gregg’s rowing career – he won a Gold Medal in the PR2 Mixed Double Sculls category at the 2023 European Championships as well as the Gold Medal in the 2023 World Championships. He also set a World Best Time for the PR2 category – an incredible feat. He was named Athlete's Athlete of the Year in 2023 for his achievements.

Gregg possesses a BSc in Sports and Exercise from the Open University, for which he won the Disabled Veterans Scholarship. Advocating for mental health care, Gregg has been a Mental Health Practitioner for an NHS veteran-related service called Op Courage. His contributions have been instrumental in creating coping strategies and increasing patient engagement and familiarity. He has also been a Lead Physical Training Instructor in the Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre for the NHS. Formerly a Programme Executive for The Prince’s Trust, Gregg inspired young people to make positive choices in life when it comes to education, training and employment.

His current role as a Veteran Lived Experience Lead for the NHS is dedicated towards ensuring veterans, reservists and carers and families are involved at all levels of service development. He also offers his advice on strategies and promotes a user-centric approach to be adopted across the organisation. For his services to sports, Gregg has been appointed Freeman of Foulridge, his town.
