This is the first in a series about creating a more sustainable and energy efficient building. Although some of our projects have been awarded LEED Gold, for this project we did not follow any specific guideline. Basically we took seven elements which we think are crucial in implementing an energy efficient building. The steps are:
1. Super insulate,
2. Use double glazing,
3. Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery,
4. All lights are LED,
5. Heating, cooling and cooking s done using electric power,
6. Water efficient toilets, shower heads and faucets,
7. Solar panels with battery storage,
8. Water harvesting
and
9. Green roof
I will upload each of these ideas in more detail in the next few weeks.
