Salamanca is a city in western Spain and the capital of the province of Salamanca in the autonomous community of Castile and León. The city is situated on several rolling hills on the Tormes River. Its historic quarter was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. In 2018, the municipality had a population of 143,978.
