Update on my knee replacement four years later. Episode 13 of the Knee Replacement Chronicles. Still running, still playing sports, and being active! What do I do to be able to do this and what can you do too.
Partial transcript of video below:
Hi. My name is Tony Armer,
and four years ago, I had a total knee
00:00:05:00 - 00:00:08:03
replacement, before
I had this knee replacement surgery.
00:00:09:12 - 00:00:11:07
I was completely miserable.
00:00:11:07 - 00:00:12:15
I was in pain.
00:00:12:15 - 00:00:14:26
I couldn't do
all the things that I love to do.
00:00:14:26 - 00:00:18:22
I have always been
someone who played sports and trained
00:00:18:22 - 00:00:22:07
and went to the gym
and was constantly active all the time.
00:00:22:27 - 00:00:26:24
And because of multiple knee
injuries and knee surgeries,
00:00:26:24 - 00:00:30:11
it got to the point where I couldn't
do any of that anymore.
00:00:30:11 - 00:00:32:52
I couldn't
even do the elliptical at the gym.
00:00:32:56 - 00:00:37:13
The most basic of cardio exercises
without being in crazy amounts of pain.
00:00:37:35 - 00:00:41:32
So my surgeon basically said,
just get the knee replacement.
00:00:41:41 - 00:00:43:15
I didn't want to at first.
00:00:43:15 - 00:00:46:18
I thought it was an old man
grandpa surgery.
00:00:46:49 - 00:00:47:53
Suppose I'm an old man now.
00:00:48:51 - 00:00:50:10
And did want to have it done.
00:00:50:10 - 00:00:52:50
But after not being able
to do anything for so long,
00:00:53:11 - 00:00:57:32
I pulled the trigger, had the knee
replacement, and couldn't be happier.
00:00:57:43 - 00:01:00:11
I'm back to doing all the things
that I'd love to do.
00:01:01:08 - 00:01:03:30
Maybe not to the same speed and level
that I used to do.
00:01:03:30 - 00:01:05:41
I'm not as young as I used to be,
00:01:05:41 - 00:01:08:50
but just being able to do them
was what was really important to me.
00:01:09:10 - 00:01:13:34
And I was able to do that because of hard
work and training, basically.
00:01:13:52 - 00:01:14:35
That's it.
00:01:14:35 - 00:01:19:36
Just putting yourself through those paces,
enjoying the pain enjoying the process,
00:01:19:56 - 00:01:20:44
so to speak,
00:01:20:44 - 00:01:24:05
and really digging into the rehab
and the exercises and make it happen.
00:01:24:29 - 00:01:25:30
I can run now.
00:01:25:30 - 00:01:28:33
I can play beach volleyball
and go snowboarding.
00:01:28:46 - 00:01:33:41
I can bike,
I can do all the things that I've wanted
00:01:33:41 - 00:01:36:57
to do and used to be able to do,
and I'm back to able to do it now.
00:01:37:15 - 00:01:40:47
52 years old
now, had a knee replacement when I was 48,
00:01:41:01 - 00:01:44:53
and this is just some of the exercises
and some of the things that I do in order
00:01:44:53 - 00:01:46:49
to be able to continue this,
00:01:46:49 - 00:01:49:05
even though I got back to being able
to do these things.
00:01:49:05 - 00:01:49:54
You don't stop.
00:01:49:54 - 00:01:53:38
You keep going, you keep training,
you keep enjoying the process,
00:01:53:53 - 00:01:54:26
so to speak.
00:01:54:26 - 00:01:57:45
You get the dopamine
hit from the actual activity
00:01:57:45 - 00:02:00:36
and the work as opposed to thinking
what it's going to be at the end.
00:02:00:50 - 00:02:05:13
So just wanted to share with you
another update in the knee replacement
00:02:05:13 - 00:02:08:17
chronicles here, where
I'm at four years later, what I'm doing,
00:02:08:32 - 00:02:11:52
what I'm able to do,
still have some pain once in a while,
00:02:12:04 - 00:02:15:06
but I've been able to work
in a lot of new exercises and new things
00:02:15:24 - 00:02:17:41
over the over the last couple of years.
00:02:18:17 - 00:02:22:27
Continuing to look online and research
and find new exercises
