When hand laying model train tracks while building a layout, anything you have to do many times is best done with some form of tool or jig. I need a series of #4 and #6 turnouts on my Timesaver plus Inglenook Wye shunting puzzle N scale model train layout. I decided to design and 3D print a Rail Cutter to allow the process of making the #4 turnouts both more consistent as well as easier. There are slots for the four kinds of rails needed: Stock Rails for the outer sides, Diverging Rails which switch the track directions, Frog Rails which make the sharp "V" track between the two paths and the small Guard Rails that help to guide the wheels through the crossings. With such a tool the job is simpler and the results much more consistent.
