In this video, I was inspired to create only using black and white from the art materials Derwent Charcoal and Graphite Blocks which I received in a previous scrawlrbox.
I like to go back to previous boxes and create again using the contents of that box. I don't want to spend money on a box I only use once and put away in the draw.
I didnt want to use the prompt that they provided but I wanted to learn to use the Charcoal blocks better. I sketched out the composition and tried to get the proportions right before starting with the Derwent charcoal blocks to colour in the the black areas. I then used the Goldfaber Faber-castell white Colouring pencil for the white stripes, the finer details and the highlights which was perfect for the paper I used which is the clairefontaine mixed media paper in denim blue.
The more i use Charcoal, the more I am enjoying them. I am learning how to use them in a more detailed way.
I mention I have sensory issues in the video where certain things I touch make me cringe and Charcoal and pastels are one of those things. If you are like me, I got around this by using a blending Stump but if you don't have one available you can use cotton wool buds.
Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions of what to create next?
