Released to combat in late Spring 1944 during the Second World War, the Messerschmitt Bf G-6/AS had the Daimler-Benz 605 engine fitted with a larger supercharger for improved performance at high altitudes. Methanol/Water (MW 50) injection kits could also be installed for improved performance at low/medium altitudes. Wikipedia reports the maximum high altitude speed of the G-6/AS was 640 km/h (391 mph) at 6,600 m (21,650 ft). Fast, quick, nimble and heavily armed, I think the Bf 109 G-6/ASM was the best fighter in the skies during early 1944!
18 Sep 1944 was the second day of Operation Market Garden (D+1). There was heavy Allied air traffic over many sectors. When I arrived over Nijmegen there were 44 Allied aircraft. A target rich environment!
These kills were made during one mission created by the Pat Wilson Campaign Generator using the 'Bodenplatte map' for a Sept 1944 German fighter pilot.
The enemy AI in a PWCG mission is randomly generated for each NPC to be either Novice, Average, Veteran or Ace. This specific pilot campaign is set to 'veteran' with a 40% chance of any AI encountered during the mission being Ace-level. The Ace AI NPCs are deadly shots and I usually find myself KIA before I even know one is close! The gist of it is, this is NOT set to 'Hold my hand Daddy/Easy' level. It's closer to 'Hurt Me Plenty/Hardcore' level but not quite 'Nightmare!'.
Double*double ace in a day plus one! Or triple ace in a day plus Double ace in a day?
