Understanding myself as a volume eater has been an important part of understanding my hunger drive. Learning that I am preprogrammed genetically and biologically to eat a certain amount of food each day has helped me learn to eat healthier in my plant-based lifestyle.
I work to keep my volume high enough to succeed over time. I eat a lot but lower the overall average calorie density through choosing foods such as leafy greens, cucumbers, and other vegetables that have high levels of fiber and water.
I am especially fond of cucumbers when I want crunchy junk food. I like the taste and the crunch, and cucumbers keep me from going astray because they help me get the volume that helps me succeed. 🥒😁
I only eat a few nuts and seeds each day because these have very high levels of calorie density. Most days, that works well for me, but sometimes, I get into too many nuts.
If I crave foods, I increase the wet starches I eat rather than the nuts and seeds, and that helps me a lot. Oatmeal and buckwheat are my frequent go-to’s on an everyday basis and I have potatoes and rice for special occasions.
There are many calorie density charts available online, should you be interested in knowing more.
