From Gloss Black to Satin Black. This customer wanted to change up the look of his Mercedes while protecting the factory paint. We applied a Satin Black Liquid Wrap to his car leaving the trim and badges chrome.
First we wash the car with water and dish soap to remove any residue, dirt, grease, etc. We let it dry over night to ensure that there is no water in any of the cracks and crevices. Then we mask it up with solvent resistant tape, paper, and plastic. Masking is the most important stage so we take our time and make sure each tape line is sharp.
Once the vehicle is masked up we can get to spraying. Since this car is going black we are just using black basecoat most of the way through. We still have to make sure that enough product gets applied to form a thick enough layer that will be durable and peel properly. This means applying coat after coat of black until we have about 5 gallons down on the car.
After letting the base coat dry for about an hour, we apply 2 coats of satin clear coat. This is a durable top coat that keeps the matte/satin look while adding protection and gas resistance. We let this dry over night then come back for a flow coat.
We sand the car down with 800 grit paper, a DA sander, and foam pad to smooth the surface out. Then we apply one last coat of satin clear for a better, smoother finish. This flowcoat just helps us get rid of orange peel and trash that may build up during the sanding process.
After unmasking the car we pull it out in to the sun to inspect our work. The owner loves his new look and so do we. You can never go wrong with a classic satin black wrap.
This Liquid Wrap will last the owner a good 4-5 years, longer if taken care of, and peel right off like vinyl when they are ready. It is gas resistant and pretty durable. You can buff, polish, wax, and even run it through a car wash. With thousands of colors to choose from, it is a great way to protect your factory paint and change it up at the same time.
