I know it is far from perfect (it is my first time trying to isolate and mix elements from such different sources) but I think it has come out quite listenable. Some of the things I tried to achieve:
● A voice of John more prominent and "stable" than in the demos and in the official releases, to achieve that I used four of the available demos as layers. Maybe at times it sounds very loaded in the manner of "Because" but I think in general the effect is pleasant.
● Enhance Paul's Bass: I think the bass accompaniment is excellent, with very entertaining lines, which manage to give a pretty lively groove without being counterproductive to the nature of the song. This performance reminds me of the best Paul in the Beatles, as in Something, In My Life, A Day in the Life etc. However, in the Ringo album the sound is not very solid, so I tried to give it more prominence and threw it to the side of the stereo field in the manner of the old Beatles recordings.
● As I had more than one vocal stem and the new track is in stereo, I tried to take advantage of that to generate "backing vocals" at certain moments such as on the bridge or in the final chorus, to fantasize about what would have been an official production if John could have completed Milk and Honey. I also put a detail at the end to remember the beauty and intimacy of the original recordings used here.
● Since all the elements had to be transported in the tonality from Bb to G, Ringo's voice could not be maintained without being notoriously deformed, however remnants of it are stuck in the instrumental tracks, and although it seems Ringo (and maybe the subtle Paul harmonies) is singing gregorian chant, I think it's not all bad.
In short, my result is not so different from the excellent remix that robbie_c made, but I think it is an interesting alternative. In his remix he kept the sound of John's piano, something that I would like to try later, as well as adding some of the orchestral overdubs that George Martin did in 1998 and also guitar played by George Harrison, but I know that the more elements one adds, the harder it is to maintain a good overall sound.
I hope you like it and if so, please share the video, I would also like to receive some feedback and suggestions to keep in mind for next time remixing. Greetings from Argentina.
