Increased consumption of rice as an alternative carbohydrate has led to farmers equally increasing production. This increase in production necessitates introducing regenerative agriculture in rice-based farming systems through sustainable rice cultivation, inter/rotational cropping with leguminous species and management of crop waste streams in line with sustainable agriculture and reducing green house gas emissions from rice farming.
Kilimo Trust in partnership with public and private sector partners is embarking on an ambitious and innovative project (Reduce-Re-use-Recycle Rice Initiative for Climate Smart Agriculture R4iCSA ). The project has been funded by IKEA foundation and targets 5,000 Smallholder farmers and other value-chain actors in Kenya and Uganda.
