Dr. Ricardo Ainslie, Director of the LLILAS Benson Mexico Center, announces the winners of the Mexico Center Award for Opinion Writing. Winners were chosen on the basis of the relevance of their writing to UT Mexico work, quality of writing, and prestige of the news outlet where the piece was published.
The winners, and their publications, are as follows: Gloria González-López (Sociology), “What the #MeToo Movement Could Do for Victims of Incest” (Ms. Magazine, Jan. 2019); Stephanie Leutert (Strauss Center for International Security and Law, LBJ School), “Trump Has It Backward: Many Migrants Are Victims of Crime” (New York Times, Sept. 2018); Carlos Torres-Verdín (Cockrell School of Engineering), “Texas and Mexico Have a Perfect Partnership Opportunity” (Dallas Morning News, Nov. 2018); Carmen Valdez (Steve Hicks School of Social Work), “Belonging and Identity for the Children of Immigrants” (The Hill, Jan. 2019); and Stephen Vladeck (Texas Law), “Our Increasingly Unenforceable Constitution” (New York Times, March 2018).
