The Jedi, once numbering in the tens of thousands, were decimated after three brutal, galaxy-spanning wars against the Sith. Less than 100 Jedi survived, with many losing faith in the teachings of the Jedi. The Great Jedi Purge occurred at the end of the Clone Wars. Over ten thousand Jedi Knights were eradicated in an instant. Emperor Palpatine’s overconfidence that the few survivors were no longer a threat to his rule allowed the Jedi to return. The Third Jedi Purge, orchestrated by Darth Krayt and the One Sith, occurred more than a century after the Battle of Yavin, purging hundreds of Jedi trained at the academy established by Luke Skywalker. With the Jedi on the brink once again, Cade Skywalker, a descendant of Luke, ended the Sith’s reign of terror by striking down Darth Krayt.
