(16 Mar 2017) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday he is working on an agreement with the United States that would map out how Israel will build settlements in the West Bank.
During a cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said he would meet again US President Donald Trump's envoy, Jason Greenblatt later on in the day.
The issue of settlements built in the West Bank is regarded as illegal under international law and most countries oppose it. However, Israel felt encouraged to build after Trump won the election and came out supporting Israel.
But the Trump administration has asked Jerusalem to halt any ongoing construction, fearing an escalation in violence.
Netanyahu also said he would continue discussions on a free trade agreement between China and Israel when he meets leaders in China later this week.
