Harry was the first large animal I rescued; the first I'd ever met, really. He terrified me at first glance. He was HUGE. I tried to talk my way out of the rescue, but he needed a fresh start, and by the end of the day, he was my soulmate. I've never been changed so instantly, so noticeably. From fear to enamored in 10 minutes of looking into each other's eyes. Harry is the reason we've rescued other donkeys, for an afternoon with him showed me that life would never complete without a donkey in it.
There are countless amazing stories I could share of the moments I witnessed between Harry and our other residents, and perhaps, someday, I will be able to. For now, I lay a piece of my soul to rest, and hope that he knew how much he changed my world.
