The Center for Native American Cancer Health Equity (C-NACHE) presents "Enhancing Multidisciplinary Cancer Care for Tribal Communities: A Surgeon's Approach" with Dr. Jennifer Erdrich for our September segment of the 2024 C-NACHE Webinar Series.
This series is committed to spotlighting the different types and aspects of cancer research occurring throughout Turtle Island (with a Four Corners region focus) and that are addressing the impact and prevalence of cancer within Native American communities. We are striving to demonstrate how diverse fields of knowledge can contribute to cancer research from the social and behavioral sciences to biological sciences, and beyond! This series aims to inspire and educate the next multi-disciplinary generation of cancer researchers and advocates within Native American communities.
In this segment of the series, Dr. Erdrich shares how her research strives to expand the surgical oncology resources available to local tribal communities through multidisciplinary approaches that leverage innovation and teamwork. She highlights her work on the relationship between obesity-related inflammation and tumor growth and explores how prehabilitation (“prehab”)—pre-surgery conditioning—can reduce inflammation and improve cancer outcomes. Additionally, Dr. Erdrich shares insights into her academic and medical journey, including her path to becoming a surgeon. Her presentation sparked an engaging and thought-provoking discussion.
