UN General Assembly Passes Resolution for Immediate Gaza Ceasefire | Subscribe to Firstpost
The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly voted on December 11 to demand an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, along with the immediate release of all hostages. The resolution, adopted with 158 votes in favour out of the 193-member assembly, used stronger language compared to earlier resolutions in 2023. The US, Israel, and seven other nations opposed the resolution, while 13 abstained. Additionally, the assembly adopted another resolution with 159 votes supporting the UN Palestinian Relief Agency (UNRWA), criticising a new Israeli law set to ban the agency's operations in Israel and urging respect for UNRWA’s mandate.
