The name "Krishna" originates from the Sanskrit word Kṛṣṇa, which is primarily an adjective meaning "black", "dark", "dark blue" or “the all attractive”. The waning moon is called Krishna Paksha, relating to the adjective meaning "darkening". The name is also interpreted sometimes as "all-attractive".
As a name of Vishnu, Krishna is listed as the 57th name in the Vishnu Sahasranama. Based on his name, Krishna is often depicted in idols as black- or blue-skinned. Krishna is also known by various other names, epithets, and titles that reflect his many associations and attributes. Among the most common names are Mohan "enchanter"; Govinda "chief herdsman", Keev "prankster", and Gopala "Protector of the 'Go'", which means "Soul" or "the cows". Some names for Krishna hold regional importance; Jagannatha, found in Puri Hindu temple, is a popular incarnation in Odisha state and nearby regions of eastern India.
Krishna may also be referred to as Vāsudeva-Krishna, Murlidhar, and Chakradhar. The honorary title "Sri" is often used before the name of Krishna. The word “Sri” also means Radha who is said to be the eternal consort and constant companion of Krishna. The Bhagvata purana in the canto number 10 doesn’t mention Radha directly by her name but refer her using different secondary names.
Kalaimamani, Sangeetha Choodamani, Padmabhushan awardee, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Smt. Sudha Ragunathan, the leading light in the constellation of contemporary Carnatic Musicians, has taken gigantic strides in the realm of achievement not by chance but by sheer commitment, soaring intensity and focus of a Zen Master to excel, incessant activity of the grey cells and a singular capacity to translate her musical imagination into stunning vocal expression. She is the scion of a proud, tall guru parampara (her Guru being none other than the much respected, Padmabhushan, Dr. M.L.Vasanthakumari) but she has evolved and grown much taller, entirely because the leit motif in her music is her infinite capacity to never lose direction, concentrating exclusively on the pertinent and eschewing irrelevance. Sudha Ragunathan has been showered with awards and titles too numerous to enumerate, but she hardly ever allows her status of an icon to adversely influence her innate attributes of humility, congeniality, humaneness and approachability. It is true that her dynamic stage presence, dignity of deportment and pleasing demeanour have endeared her to one and all. She has been featured in many prestigious festivals in India and abroad, and has received international acclaim and appreciation. It is not an exaggeration that she has become a role model for the youthful aspirants of Carnatic Music in the present day scenario. Sudha Ragunathan’s most recent recognition is the National Award – “Padmabhushan ” from the President of India on 2015. Sudha Ragunathan, as the Poet said, is one who tirelessly strives and stretches her arms towards perfection.
