PENCIL JET TECHNIQUE
2019 UPDATED KNOWLEDGE :
Pencil jets (OFF-GLASS-RINSING) is a very inefficient technique.
EFFICIENCY is about reducing WORK.
WORK = FORCE (f) x DISTANCE (ds).
When you move the brush through so much distance to effect a rinse, you have poor EFFICIENCY!
With the evolution of BOLT-ON RINSE BARS, and even CENTER RINSE BARS on ‘Broom-Style brushes’, we still see -a lot of operators doing OFF-GLASS-RINSE because the brush holds dirt, and the bristles don’t hold the water on the glass, effectively changing from 2 pencil jets to 20 pencil jets ! This does not solve the problem of HYDROPHOBIC GLASS if the operator rinses horizontally, however it does increase efficiency if they can master how to rinse windows vertically.
To master EFFICIENCY, consider how much force you are required to apply to the brush (via your ‘driveshaft’, the pole) and how far does the brush have to move on (and/or off) the glass to effect a clean, and then reduce one, or both!
