Here it is completed. My "simulated moon" is now a table lamp. I filmed this video to show it firing up with a clear lamp. It doesn't warm up all the way in the camera's time limit but it is fun to watch warm up. I used a cast aluminum post top globe fitter fixture with a 12 inch opal acrylic globe and I cut a 3 inch aluminum lighting post short with a hacksaw and used a 3 inch ABS plastic and stainless steel toilet flange as the base with some sheetmetal shims to wedge the post in there. Inside of the post is a postline type ballast which is a cylindrical ballast that dangles inside of the post from a single chain, which is hooked over the outer edge of the post top. I will film another video of this cool home brewed MV table lamp firing up with a coated DX lamp soon.
