Snowfall and biting cold weather have hit parts of the Kurdish region of Iraq.
The snow is making life difficult for people in Sulaymaniyah, where villagers are struggling to get fuel and firewood.
STORY-LINE:
A blanket of snow has covered roads, roofs and even home entrances at villages in Sulaymaniyah province, in Iraq's Kurdish region.
Locals are struggling to keep warm in the fierce cold weather that has hit the area.
"It never got as cold as it did this year," said Saeed Aziz, a shepherd from the town of Penjwin.
Shop owners in Penjwin were using shovels to try and clear paths leading to their shops to make it easier for customers to enter.
But even on the days that he managed to open his shop, Aziz said customers did not turn up because of the extreme weather.
"People are not coming out. There are only few people outside and they come out for necessary things," he said.
The meteorology directorate in the Kurdish region said in a statement that the area has had a record low temperature.
It was fluctuating between -24 and -25 degrees Celsius (-11.2 to -13 Fahrenheit) on Jan. 23 and 24, even dropping to -27 degrees Celsius (-16.6 Fahrenheit) at times.
