Imagine living in a house in the backyard of which one of history's most infamous murders occurred.
Well, that's exactly what happened to the residents of 29 Hanbury Street on the 8th of September 1888 when they awoke to news that Jack the Ripper had paid their house a visit, and had murdered another victim, Annie Chapman, in the backyard as they slept in their beds.
In this video, you will hear all about those long ago residents, as you are taken through the events of the night of September the 7th to the morning of September the 8th, 1888.
A total of seventeen people resided in the building, and you will be introduced to all of them, as well as learn of the part they played in the discovery of the murder, and what they saw or heard - or, to be more precise, didn't see or hear, in the early hours of the morning, when Annie Chapman and her killer stepped through their unlocked front door and entered the yard in which her body would be found by one of the residents at 6a.m.
You will also learn about their reactions to the gruesome crime, as well as the reactions of the neighbours who lived on either side.
A fascinating piece of true crime history awaits your discovery.
