Boris Dvornik (1939-2008) was one of the greatest Croatian actors ever.
Together with one of the greatest Serbian actors - Velimir Bata Živojinović, they were a famous tandem of the former Yugoslav cinema. Their friendship symbolized the Tito's policy of brotherhood and unity of the different ethnic groups of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
They played with many international movie stars such as Richard Burton, Orson Welles, Yul Brynner and Franco Nero. Notable films: Sutjeska, Battle of Neretva, Most (Bridge) and others.
In 1991 the two actors renounced each other in a series of open letters, which was a gesture often seen as symbolic of the breakup of Yugoslavia.
In 2006, they publicly reconciled on the Croatian NOVA TV via a video link between Dvornik's hometown Split (Croatia) and a hospital in Belgrade (Serbia), where Živojinović had a heart surgery.
Boris Dvornik died on March 24, 2008. Rest in Peace great man.
