The unit retails at 400$ on the Garmin website, however I got it for only 300$ in my country, from a local online shop.
The device size is 80 by 50 by 20 mils, and it has a weight of 79 grams.
3.2” x 1.9” x 0.8”
It has IPX7 water protection, which means you can totally ride with it in heavy rains.
The 2.6-inc display is touchscreen-operated and Garmin claims a battery life of up to 20 hours.
The device is equipped with the following sensors: GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BAROMETRIC ALTIMETER, ACCELEROMETER, AMBIENT LIGHT SENSOR, and MAGNETOMETER
It comes preloaded with the map from which region the purchase was made.
So for example, if you buy the unit in the US, you get the North and Central America map, if you buy it in Europe you get the Europe map, and so on.
The navigation function, along with TURN-BY-TURN DIRECTION make a great team together, so you can worry less on where you have to go, and focus more on the pleasure of riding.
Each time there is an upcoming turn you will get a notification on your Garmin.
And now, for the icing on the cake the Training, Planning and Analysis Features.
This device has so many training options, data and reports, that it can feel overwhelming at times, especially if you are an occasional rider, who is not that much interested in wats, numbers and statistics.
It's like having a fitness instructor in your pocket. You can download training plans from the Garmin App , trainingpeaks, or any other platform, do advanced workouts, get in-depth reports after each ride or workout such as your VO2 max level, training status, training load, recovery days, training effect and many many more. You can also view how your body is reacting to altitude changes and heat, with the altitude acclimation function.
The ClimbPro is another useful function especially on longer climbs, as it helps you to manage and doze your efforts much better. You can view the climb's average gradient and the remaining ascent, so you know how much more you have to suffer. This function is available only when you follow a course or a route.
The device is also compatible with power meters, cadence sensors, Shimano DI 2, Varia lights, and many other sensors.
You can connect it via Bluetooth, ANT+ sensors or Wifi, and you can receive call, SMS, and smart notifications while you ride if the Garmin is connected to your phone. You can also reject a call, or reply back with a message. However, this feature is only available on Android at the moment of this review.
You have the ability to add new maps, store up to 100 navigation routes, and it also keeps a history of your rides for up to 200 hours.
The unit incorporates some useful safety and tracking features such as Incident Detection, Bike Alarms LiveTrack, and Assistance.
You can set up one or more emergency contacts, which will automatically be notified in case of emergency, such as being involved in a crash.
You can also set up a bike alarm, and if the bike is moved, you will get a notification.
LiveTrack is a feature that allows your family and friends to view your exact location and follow along your ride.
All of these features need to be set up in the Garmin Connect app.
In the box, you'll find the device, obviously.
At the bottom of the device, there are the start and lap buttons, along with the USB charging port.
On the side, there is the power off | sleep button, and on the back, there is a port that allows you to attach a Garmin Charge™ Power Pack that will add an extra 24 hours of battery life to your device.
Digging deeper in the box, we find the out-front mount which is already installed on my road bike, two Allen keys for the mount screws, a strap to secure your Garmin to the handlebars so if you hit a pothole, for example, a device won't fall off your bike, loads of rubber bands along with 2 extra mounts to use on your stem or handlebars, the user manual and of course a USB charging cable.
