As part of the At Home with the JPO series, we are pleased to present Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1. The performance was part of the JPO Virtual Spring Symphony Season, recorded at the Linder Auditorium in October 2020, under strict COVID regulations.

The work is widely known as the Classical Symphony, and was written by the composer while on holiday in the country, using it as an exercise in composing, away from the piano. It premièred in April 1918 in Petrograd, conducted by Prokofiev himself, and has become one of his most popular works.
