Sumalatha also reacted on joining BJP and said an Independent candidate can't join BJP.BJP had extended support to Sumalatha by not fielding their candidate. Sumalatha defeated HD Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil Kumaraswamy by 1.25 lakh votes
