Kenyan victims of the 1998 bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi have once again demanded reparations from Washington. The call came as the East African nation honoured 25 years since its deadliest terror attack.
On August 7, 1998, an enormous explosion near the US embassy in Nairobi killed 213 individuals and injured nearly 5,000 others, most of whom were pedestrians or office workers in nearby buildings.
A few minutes later, a second explosion shook the US mission in the adjoining Tanzanian city of Dar es Salaam. Totalling 224 deaths, the twin bombings—which Al-Qaeda perpetrated—had a profound impact on how a generation views personal security.
