Today’s correction: Shoulders too wide, Option 2
If the slash-and-close method is just too much to figure out, you can use this much easier method to reduce the shoulder width.
This is my go-to method because it keeps our shoulder slope the same.
1. Identify the issue: Low Point Shoulder (LPS) is too low at the armhole area. You may have excess fabric in the “across-front” area.
2. Pin the amount you want to reduce the across shoulder area at the armhole.
3. Measure the amount you’ve pinned and note it down.
4. Mark that amount inwards from the armhole at the LPS to get your new shoulder width.
5. After you do that, you’ll notice the armhole is slightly bigger. You’ll need to add to the cap height to make the sleeve fit the new armhole. (Alternatively, you could keep the sleeve as it is and raise the armhole to reduce that instead.) So many options! And for sure, there are even more methods out there 😊
We’ll get into the across shoulder widths being too narrow next. They are actually the same methods, just going the opposite direction.
