Microbial biodiversity, biogeochemical and biotechnological properties of Mulu cave system:
Sampling at Deer Cave, Mulu Caves National Park in northern Sarawak on the island of Borneo.
A combination of techniques in molecular ecology and geochemistry will be used to describe the microbial diversity revealed via water, soil and biofilm samples collected from Deer and Lagang’s Caves. Their role in the formation versus degradation of calcified structures and their ability to produce novel antibiotics will be elucidated.
